The documentary

The documentary “Mark – A Call to Action” shares Mark’s story and how his tireless efforts helped raise awareness and positively impacted the lives of not only disabled persons, but also children, seniors and vulnerable populations in the United States, Japan, and other countries around the world.

Our hope with this documentary is to carry on Mark’s legacy and spark conversations about the ways in which architects, engineers, educators, policy makers, activists and others interested in making a difference – can help improve access, and build environments that enhance the lives of the millions living with disabilities.

The goal is to create a platform for disabled university students to apply for the opportunity to receive scholarships to travel and further their educations – which in turn will help motivate them to share ideas, affect change and raise awareness of their community throughout the world.

Mark’s support of inclusion was universal and his vision was clear – to eliminate obstacles so everyone can participate in study abroad programs as he had done in Japan.

We have the opportunity through GLIDE Fund, to bring together scholars, practitioners, local business owners and members of the general public to join in the conversation to create a more inclusive form of educational opportunities that will lead to greater employment and improvements in healthcare.

By offering scholarships to disables students in both domestic and International arenas – GLIDE Fund aims to ensure that research by and for disabled individuals leads to concrete social change.

We are pleased to announce that “Mark – A Call To Action” will be making its U.S. Premiere as part of the Bryn Mawr Film Institute Summer Series in June!

There will be a special post-screen conversation with Dr. Paul Bookman (Mark’s Father) and Rachel Bookman (Mark’s sister) along with director Ron Small.

Tickets are available online now and a portion of the proceeds will go to the GLIDE Fund, Inc.

“One fundamental truth underlying every decision I make is the desire to overcome adversity.”
